Tech made simple.
People first.

I'm Zac. I run Zectron Web & IT Services, I make plain-English tech videos as Zac the IT Guy, and I spend a lot of my week helping business owners grow through BNI.

About

Here's Zac.

I'm the IT guy who'd rather explain it properly than baffle you with jargon. I run a business, I make videos, I'm all in on BNI, and I don't do boring.

I started Zectron in 2012, a year out of school, to challenge the overpriced, underdelivered IT I kept seeing. I built it into a managed IT, cybersecurity, Microsoft 365, hosting and web business looking after small and medium businesses all over Sydney, from our office in Norwest.

Most business owners I meet don't want to become IT experts. They want their tech to work, their data to be safe and someone they can call who explains things properly. That's what I've built Zectron around, and it's the whole idea behind Zac the IT Guy: no jargon, no scare tactics, just what you need to know and what to do next.

Networking changed my business, and now I love helping other owners grow the same way. In 2026 I was named BNI Ambassador of the Year at the BNI Australia National Conference, which still makes me grin.

My story so far

  1. 2011Finished school at Glenwood High, already the person everyone called when the computer played up.
  2. 2012Started Zectron Web & IT Services. One guy, a lot of hustle and a promise to explain things properly.
  3. 2026Named BNI Ambassador of the Year at the BNI Australia National Conference.
  4. NowLooking after businesses across Sydney from Norwest, posting Zac the IT Guy tips every week and leading in BNI across Sydney North West and Penrith.

What I stand for

These are the values I built Zectron on, and they're the same ones I live by outside work. Driven, but never at the expense of people. Tough on problems, easy to deal with.

01

Honesty

Straight answers, even when they're not the ones you want to hear. If you don't need it, I'll tell you. No tech-speak, no upsell, just honest advice.

02

Integrity

I do what I say I'll do. My name is on everything I deliver, and I'm the same person in the meeting as I am out of it.

03

Be yourself

I'd rather be remembered than fit in. The curls, the beard, the bright blue car: I'm not one of the crowd, and I don't try to be.

04

Hard work

Answer the phone. Turn up when I said I would. Fix the problem, not just the symptom. Real support takes real effort, and I put it in.

05

Grit and resilience

I started a business straight out of school and I'm still here. Business has thrown plenty at me over the years. I don't fold, I learn and I come back stronger.

06

Never take no for an answer

To me, "no" usually means "not yet" or "not that way". I keep going until the problem is solved, for my clients and for myself.

Off the clock

CampingSwitching off somewhere with no Wi-Fi. Yes, really.
FishingPatience I don't always have at a keyboard.
Fine diningAlways keen to try somewhere new. Send me your favourites.
MusicAlways something playing, in the office or in the car.
StyleProud of my beard lines, R.M. Williams boots and a good suit.
Bucket listA proper trip to Uluru. It's coming.

Three things I do.

Different hats, same approach: show up, keep it simple, and actually help.

60-Second Fix

Why your Wi-Fi is slow

The quick checks that fix most home and office Wi-Fi problems.

Read the quick version
  • Restart the router and modem, in that order, and give them two minutes.
  • Move the router out of cupboards and away from the floor, TVs and fish tanks.
  • Check how many devices are connected. Old phones and smart plugs add up.
  • Use the 5 GHz network when you are close to the router, 2.4 GHz when you are further away.
  • If it is still slow on a cable, the problem is your internet plan, not your Wi-Fi.
60-Second Fix

Speed up a slow computer

What to do before you spend money on a new one.

Read the quick version
  • Restart it properly. Most slow computers have not been restarted in weeks.
  • Check what starts automatically and turn off anything you don't need.
  • Make sure you have at least 15 to 20 percent free disk space.
  • Install pending updates, then restart again.
  • If it still has a spinning hard drive, an SSD upgrade is often cheaper than a new machine.
Things Clients Ask Me

Cloud storage is not a backup

Why OneDrive and Dropbox alone won't save you.

Read the quick version
  • Sync tools copy your mistakes too: delete a file and it disappears everywhere.
  • Ransomware can encrypt synced files just as easily as local ones.
  • Version history has limits on how far back it goes.
  • A real backup is a separate copy, kept somewhere else, that you have tested restoring.
  • For a business, Microsoft 365 needs its own backup. Microsoft says so in its own service agreement.
Red Flag Friday

Spot a fake invoice email

The signs that give a scam invoice away.

Read the quick version
  • Bank details have "changed" and the email says it is urgent.
  • The sender address is close to right but not quite.
  • The invoice is for something you don't recognise, or it is a supplier you pay but the wording feels off.
  • Always confirm new bank details with a phone call to a number you already have, never one in the email.
  • If in doubt, forward it to your IT person before you pay anything.
